Amateur Blonde is the music of Ryan Roger O'Toole, a singer/songwriter originally from Arizona, now living in NYC. Amateur Blonde has just completed their first album which was initially released on CD + Download, and is now available on limited 12" vinyl. Apart from a very unique voice, Ryan's songs straddle a few genres.
The Electric Guitar songs tend to be modern and rocking in nature (similar to Radiohead's early album, The Bends). The Piano songs are a bit more Spartan in their arrangement, and one might say they evoke an amalgamation of Coldplay and Pink Floyd.
The one constant throughout the music is Ryan's unique voicing. As a live band, Ryan typically incorporates background singers and Pedal Steel guitar. This gives the sound a powerfully rich and lustrous tone, which is supported by expert percussion, electric bass and guitar work. This band is very expressive live, as their tone often sways between "the beautifully tranquil" and "the wild rock-out."
Ryan plays most of the instruments on the record and works in New York City as a gigging musician (as a drummer, bassist, guitarist and pianist). AMATEUR BLONDE has performed more than 30 shows with a full band.
